I can just imagine you right now thinking….”Oh geez Adrianne! Where are you going with this one?” Hang in here with me! The Law of Attraction was brought to my attention a few years back when Oprah was on TV every weekday. She did a special about The Secret which teaches people how to use positive thinking to bring things that people want into their own lives. Oprah invited the “mother” of positive thinking, Louise Hay to talk about the law of attraction. “The law of attraction is that our thinking creates and brings to us whatever we think about,” she says. “It’s as though every time we think a thought, every time we speak a word, the universe is listening and responding to us.”
The Power of Positive Thinking
I’ve found this to be true in my life. I believe in my Savior, but I also know there is a lot to be said for positive thinking. If I could change Louise’s words to, ” It’s as though every time we think a thought, every time we speak a word, our Lord is listening and responding to us.” Even when we are faced with difficult trials, if we face them with a positive attitude, our capacity to endure it well is increased. Isn’t this what God would want us to do? Focus on blessings instead of hardship?
Running a tutor business is not for the faint of heart! It takes great patience as you diligently work on finding those first students or growing your student clientele. As you are being patient, I believe your thoughts can be working for you in a positive or negative way. The law of attraction applies to business. If you are sending out good thoughts to others like;
“I want to help your child succeed.”
“I want to bless the lives of many children.”
Your desires will come to fruition because you are sending out positive energy towards others that they find very attractive. They can feel that you are passionate about tutoring!
On the flip side, you could send out negative thoughts like these;
“Why can’t I just find even one student?”
“Why do my students seem to leave in droves?”
People can sense if they are wanted and desired by you. They know if you are only half invested because what you really think you want is a full time teaching job or some other full time employment. Your tutoring business will suffer if you go into business with this attitude.
I want you to write down positive thoughts about your tutoring business. Include very specific statements. Make a list of what you want your business to become. Carry this list around with you…put it in your phone! Maybe your tablet…on your bulletin board. Read the list weekly.
Let me share an example from my father in-law’s life. It doesn’t have to do with tutoring, but the law of attraction is applied.
When he was a young man attending college, he had a goal to find a suitable wife. One night he sat down and composed a list with everything that he could ever want in a wife. He kept it in his pocket and even shared it with other ladies at college (I think it may have been his lame attempt to flirt). All the ladies knew he had this list in his pocket and honestly kept him in mind.
At a dance, a group of ladies ran up to him to ask him about his list. He pulled it out and read it to them again. They all giggled and told him that they found her! He was delighted. They pointed her out across the room, there she was…my future mother in-law.
I want you to have a tutoring business that blesses children all over the world and brings prosperity to your home! That is my biggest desire with this blog. Writing a blog is a lot of hard work, but I am highly motivated to help you succeed.
One last quick story from my own experience, I was lying in bed late this last week thinking about my students. I thought to myself, “I really should work more actively to get some more students.” That is all the positive thought I put into it. I sat down at the computer the next morning to blog here and the phone rang. It was a new student who needs to come twice a week! I am not saying it will always be this easy, but I really believe in the power of positive thinking.
Are you tired of this super long post? If you care to read on…here is my own list for my tutor business.
1. My students will be confident learners.
2. My students will feel safe.
3. My students will learn the value of studying.
4. I will only lose students when appropriate…when they don’t need me.
5. My Tuesday evening slots will fill up by January.
6. My homework clinic will gain popularity.
7. I will make enough tutoring to save $100 for my retirement fund each month.
I believe as I read this list each week, my mind will be subconsciously problem solving and the Lord guiding me to help these things come to pass.
If you feel comfortable, leave your list here in the comments. Thanks for reading this incredibly long post!
Quick note about the cute picture up top. It comes from an incredibly talented photographer who only takes photos of this cute little bear. You can visit her here.
