Step 1: Working with Your Online Tutoring Platform
Estimated time to complete: 1 Hour
Last week, you should have tried do something a little more complex with your tutoring platform. We’d like you to continue trying tools within your platform this week. Consider the following tools:
- A stylus can make handwriting smoother and quicker.
- Ask a student/partner to upload a snapshot or file into the online classroom. This makes asking questions about homework a cinch.
- Share an instructional video with your student/partner. Make sure both users can hear and see the video. YouTube is a great place to start.
- Try sharing an app on your phone or tablet. There are many great instructional games available to use with a student.
- Use your phone as a document camera. You can share an experiment or hand write a problem.
- Review all communication you use with a client. We have created quite a few documents. Make any necessary changes or updates.
Do some research this week to decide how you’d like to accomplish using a new tool. Remember, if there is something you would like to accomplish in the online classroom, but you aren’t sure how to do it, let us know. Reach out on Google+
Step 2: Creating a Marketing Plan
One of my favorite quotes from the book, The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin is, “You manage what you measure.” Gretchen teaches that in order for you to make progress toward any type of goal you will need to measure how you are doing with that goal.
She also makes it clear that goals have to be specific. For example, stating that you would like more clients isn’t very clear or easy to measure. Adding only one client would satisfy this goal. Whereas saying, “I will add 5 more clients in the next three months.” is a much more specific goal that allows us to build action around that.
Our goal during module 8 is to help you create specific goals with action steps to move you forward. Some of the goals may be that you will work on improving your online presence or perhaps that you’ll try Facebook ads and target your audience. Each tutor’s goal will be unique to them.

Now that you've had a chance to learn some of the various tutoring platforms, it is time to revisit your Business Revenue planner again. You should have downloaded this document during Module 0 and filled it out to get a grasp of what you need to charge to afford the tools that make you an effective online tutor.
